Registration for our upcoming fall Cross Country Program is now open to all boys and girls, ages 11-18. All abilities are welcome - there are no try-outs or cuts. Current age groups are 11-12, 13-14, 15-18. We are no longer accepting registrations for 8-10 year old members.
Registration will be done via teamsnap https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/329546
We do hope to be able to accept registrations from all interested participants, but our usual training site will be under construction, forcing us to use several other sites for our practices. These sites may impose restrictions on the number of participants allowed, so we encourage early registration to guarantee a spot. We will accept members on a first come - first served basis, but may also limit the number of members per age group/gender.
Cross country involves training and racing for distances of 1.1 - 2.4 miles through wooded trails and grass fields (15-18 year old members will race 5K distance).
Practices will be held at 6:00, three nights per week (Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday) from early August through late November. Participants choose which nights they want to attend, but are encouraged to attend to at least two practices per week and are encouraged to attend three nights per week.
Pre season conditioning practices will start on Tuesday, August 2 for those who are available. Formal XC practices start on Sunday, August 21. Members may join in at any time.
Practices will be held at various sites throughout the season. Various practice sites include: Newton North High School, Albemarle Park, Waltham High School, The Cove in Newton, Charles River Walkway. We will keep members posted as to where sessions will be held on a week to week basis
Boys and girls who also plan to participating on their middle school's cross country team will train with their school team until the scholastic season concludes and then they will join our program on a regular basis thereafter (though members are welcome to practice and compete with WTC on days they do not do so with their school team). However, all middle school Club members are expected to attend our Club’s practices each Sunday during the season.
Our Cross Country Program will follow all state and local health guidelines as they pertain to Covid.
